Cultural/Gender Sensitivity Reminder

Officials are reminded to always speak and act professionally when addressing student-athletes, coaches, school/team officials and spectators.  In the emotional setting of sport competition the use of informal pet nicknames, or slang may convey an attitude of disrespect or bias.

Complaints have been filed on officials who have used such terms as: sweetie, honey, babe, big boy, stud, bubba, chief etc.  Use of terms such as these is never appropriate.  Also remember to extend the same respect to all fellow officials of a different gender or race.
